The Merton Drug Action Team (DAT) is currently considering its plan for the year 2001/02 and is inviting members of the community to discuss this at their Public Consultation Day.
During 2000/2001 the team has secured £107,000 to fund a resettlement and aftercare team to work in Merton, Sutton, Kingston, Richmond and Wandsworth to maximise the opportunities to find employment, training, education and housing for people completing treatment or leaving prison who live in those boroughs.
It has also undertaken a detailed needs assessment of vulnerable young people. The team is now implementing the recommendations of that report which include more support to parents and carers, drugs awareness training for front-line staff, and targeted interventions for people in the Pupil Tuition Service.
The team’s Public Consultation day will discuss the detailed actions to be included in its 2001/2002 Annual Plan including drugs education and prevention for young people, tackling drug-related crime and disorder and helping people to access drug treatment.
Those attending the day include people from tenants and residents associations, community organisations, faith communities, police, probation, local authority, health professionals, voluntary agencies, specialist drug services and service users.
This event is free and will be held on Thursday 22 February 2001 (9.30am to 4.00pm). It will be held at the Chaucer Centre, Canterbury Road, Morden.
