Merton Council listened to the views of its mature citizens at an Over 55’s “Have Your Say” event held at Merton College recently.
The well-attended event illustrated the important contribution that mature citizens give to the borough as with over 70 local people airing their views on important aspects of community life including:
Results from a recent survey carried out in the borough by Merton Council showed that residents in the over 55 age group felt that, more than any other sector in the community, their views were not taken into account.
Diane Bailey, Head of Scrutiny and Policy said: “This event was designed to show that the local authority believes that the views of this age group are vital to the community’s success.
Diane added: “The feedback from those who attended was extremely positive, and some practical key issues raised were about: using the skills that mature citizens have, cleaning up Merton together, lifelong learning, better links with young people and designing better shopping and town control.”
