Merton issues reminder to residents to check house callers? identities
Merton Council is reminding residents to check the identity of anyone visiting their home claiming to be a council worker.
Rea Mattocks, Director of Housing and Social Services, said: ?All council workers carry identification badges if they have to visit a person?s home and will not mind waiting outside if a resident wants to call the council to verify who the person claims to be. It?s better to be safe than sorry.?
To check the identity of a Merton Council employee people should call the main switchboard at the Civic Centre on 020 8543 2222 who will transfer a caller to the relevant department. Staff will be happy to confirm a person?s identity.
