The ‘lollipops’ of Merton had cause to celebrate this year, as it was the 50th Anniversary of School Crossing Patrols. The Mayor, Cllr Edith McCauley, presented the crew of present and recently retired patrols with a commemorative badge to mark the event.
The current crew of loyal ‘lollies’ have 70 years of service between them, and provide invaluable road safety assistance to both children and parents in the Borough.
The Council is desperately short of school crossing patrols and is currently recruiting for local sites throughout the Borough. This worthwhile paid employment is open to anyone over 18 years, the hours are term time only and training and uniform is supplied.
