Eric the Viking is laid to rest

A Merton school is to pay its final respects to ‘Eric the Viking’ to mark the culmination of its successful arts week.

Cricket Green School on Lower Green West in Mitcham will bury Eric next Thursday July 1 at 1.15pm. Eric has been made by the pupils as part of the schools art week and he will receive a full ceremonial burial along with all his valued possessions – also produced by the children.

These include traditional jewelry, shoes and musical instruments. The whole project is the brainchild of the schools art teacher Paul Lansley.

“The burial of Eric the Viking will symbolise the culmination of what promises to be a great week. The pupils have learnt about all aspects of Viking life which we have been able to link into all areas of the school’s curriculum from English to Technology.”
