National Playday comes to Merton on Wednesday 4 August, with fantastic fun and games for all to enjoy at the Acacia Intergenerational Centre.
Sponsored by Mansell and supported through Merton’s Play Partnership, Playday 2010 is offering children and young people up to the age of 14 play opportunities, activities and workshops at the IGC and surrounding area from 12pm – 4pm.
With a giant inland beach, a travelling farm and dance workshops, there will be lots of exciting activities for all under 14s. Carpentry workshops lead on to den building and outdoor games for the budding nature fans, while the under 5s can play in a designated play area with lot of activities for younger children to enjoy.
Playday is a national intitiative and the theme for 2010 is Our Place. The Playday 2010 Our Place campaign is seeking to put children’s play back where it belongs and is asking everyone – young and old – to help create better places for children to live and play.
Visitors may also get the chance to have a look around Merton’s brand new adventure playground, situated next door to the Centre, which is due to open this Autumn.
Merton Council’s cabinet member for children’s services, Councillor Maxi Martin said:
“Playtime is essential for children’s development and learning whilst also ensuring they have fun. Our children’s centres and community venues offer so many exciting and free activities for families to get involved in. I look forward to seeing lots of happy faces at the IGC on Playday.”
