Merton Council is helping residents to get fit for free and make the most of their local park with new outdoor gyms being installed around the borough.
Mostyn Gardens is the latest Merton park to have an outdoor gym installed after King George’s Playing Fields introduced a new and improved gym last summer. The new gym at Mostyn Gardens includes a cross trainer and a hand bike as well as leg press, chest press and shoulder press benches.
The new exercise areas have been added to parks as part of the council’s investment in its greenspaces, which also includes new play equipment in King George’s Playing Fields and All Saints Recreation Ground, the refurbishment of Pollards Hill’s play area and a new surfacing for the goal mouth at Edenvale Open Space.
Cabinet member for environmental sustainability and regeneration Councillor Andrew Judge said: “Merton is one of the greenest boroughs in London and I’m delighted that we are investing in our parks to make sure that they continue to be a great place for people to visit. We are lucky to have so much green space in Merton and I would encourage everyone to get out to your local park and visit the new outdoor gyms and play areas.”
Angela Graham from the Merton Mums group said: “Our parks already have lovely play areas for our children to use and it’s great to see resources for adults being brought into our parks too, making them a destination for all the family. The outdoor gyms are a great way to get out and get some exercise.”
