Merton Council celebrates its small businesses

Merton Council’s Leader, Councillor Stephen Alambritis, will be serving up pizza, cutting keys and selling fine wines to celebrate Merton’s many small businesses this Small Business Saturday (5 December).

For the third year in a row, the council has marked this day to highlight the importance of local businesses to the borough and the diversity of the businesses that have chosen to set up in Merton.

Merton was awarded “Best All Round Small Business Friendly Borough” in 2014, which is testament to the hard work of the local businesses and the support the council offers local businesses through its comprehensive business support programme.

Leader of Merton Council, Councillor Stephen Alambritis said: “Merton is home to 9,000 small businesses employing 38,000 people, which are the economic backbone of the local community. I am proud of our track record as a borough which supports and attracts businesses.

“It is essential that we support our local businesses as there are numerous benefits that they provide for the borough such as enhancing the local economy as well as quality service and value. It’s great to see young businesses set up here and flourish, bringing jobs and opportunity to Merton. I love hearing what business people in the borough have to say and this year I will be visiting a few that are open early in the morning and late into the night.”
