The final push for points has started as Beat the Street Merton draws to a close.

For the final ‘Go Celebrate’ week, every Beat Box will be giving out double points before the game ends at 7pm on the 26th  April. The leaderboard will then be taken down with the winners announced shortly after the competition.

Over 22,300 Merton residents have signed up and have together walked, cycled, wheeled, run and scooted an incredible 220,000 miles so far in the competition with the total increasing minute by minute. An incredible 38% of participants have said that before taking part in Beat the Street they were physically inactive.

Currently, St John Fisher Primary School tops the total points leaderboard with Poplar Primary School and Wimbledon Chase Primary School in second and third. On the average points leaderboard, Dons Local Action Group is top and the charity could be in with a chance of receiving a £500 donation from organisers.

Councillor Peter McCabe, Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care, said: “What a joy the last few weeks have been! We are now moving into ‘Go Celebrate Week’, the final week of Beat the Street. The game has created a real buzz, and it has been fantastic to see everyone getting active together as a community. The Beat the Street game itself is just the start. When the game comes to an end, we will continue working with the local community to ensure that these healthy lifestyle habits are put into action and players are signposted to activities and community groups that they might not have known about before.”

Mark Creelman, Place Executive – Merton and Wandsworth, NHS South West London said: “It’s been an amazing six weeks, as we’ve watched Merton residents rise to the challenge of Beat the Street. Now we’re looking forward to the next phase of the project where we’ll work with local stakeholders and community groups to continue to encourage people to be physically activity every day.”

Beat the Street is part of Actively Merton and has been commissioned by Merton Council and NHS South West London with support from the National Lottery via Sport England. It is being delivered by Intelligent Health.
