As the weather gets colder, Merton Council is gearing up to tackle icy conditions and ensure smooth mobility throughout the borough.
To guarantee the safety of our residents during colder weather, Merton Council is reaffirming its commitment to robust preparation for icy roads.
When the forecast predicts icy weather or snow, our response includes the application of grit (rock salt) on roads and pavements, particularly in crucial areas such as town centres, schools, train stations, and local shops. We’re also preparing for ice and snow clearance operations.
We have stockpiled 1,519 tonnes of salt to treat roads across the entire borough. Thorough planning has been executed to ensure an ample supply of salt, keeping Merton’s streets clear of ice hazards and safeguarding the well-being of our residents.
Throughout the winter period, a dedicated duty officer remains on call 24/7 to make decisions on gritting activities based on precise weather forecasts.
