A Christmas message from Merton Council Leader

A Christmas message from Councillor Ross Garrod, Leader of Merton Council:

“As leader of Merton Council, I want to extend my warmest wishes to residents in all corners of the borough this Christmas. The festive season always reminds me what a special place Merton is. I feel especially proud to be part of and from this wonderful community at this time of year when our spirit and pride in where we live shines throughout our streets and neighbourhoods.

“Every year, the season of goodwill brings out the best in Merton showing the warmth and kindness that defines our borough for all to see. So, whether you’re celebrating Christmas or simply enjoying the festive spirit I hope you’re able to spend this break surrounded by friends and family and can enjoy the fun of many festive activities taking place across our borough.

“I know that for some residents this time of year can be especially challenging and that’s why we’ve ensured our libraries are among the many venues welcoming people into Warm Spaces and the council continues to work with our partners in Wimbledon Guild and Age UK Merton to keep our most vulnerable residents safe and well during these winter months.

“And, for those struggling with the family finances, we have support on hand from the council which you can access online at www.merton.gov.uk/CostOfLiving. Help is also available through our fantastic community partners at the Merton Community Hub and Citizens Advice who can connect you with the support that you need or you can contact me in my office.

“To everyone living, learning or working in Merton, I hope that you’re able to relax reflect and appreciate the special time of year. I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and the very best in 2025.”
