Affordable homes boost

Merton signs up to Preferred Partners project

Merton has signed an agreement that will result in more affordable homes for people in the borough during the next three years.

The Preferred Partners Agreement struck with five Housing Associations, will last until 2005 and will provide more affordable homes to people on low incomes. It will also promote greater efficiency and co-operation between Merton and its partners.

The five associations involved are Croydon Peoples Housing Association, London & Quadrant Housing Trust, Presentation Housing Association, Threshold Housing and Support and Wandle Housing Association. They own properties in Merton already and were chosen as preferred partners due to their understanding of local housing needs.

They will now be able to develop their work with all sections of the Merton community with the full backing of the council, meaning more affordable homes will become available

Kathy Bucknill, Strategy and Development Manager at London Borough of Merton, said: ‘We are pleased to be working with such enthusiastic partners who are dedicated to meeting the housing needs of Merton. All five organisations will focus on addressing local issues and we are confident that the borough as a whole will benefit.”
