Redundancies decision announced

All displaced staff will receive statutory entitlements

Merton Council has announced that all of the staff made redundant by Schools Reorganisation will be given their statutory redundancy entitlements.

However, some teaching staff who were made redundant will not receive discretionary payments.

Sue Evans, Director of Education, Leisure & Libraries, said: “Merton Council has had teacher vacancies in the Borough throughout the Reorganisation process and has given maximum support to teachers to take on new roles.

“The Council has had to recruit teachers from abroad and employ supply teachers at premium rates. Individual cases were considered in the context of these factors and additional payments have not been given where it is felt that staff did not make reasonable efforts to secure alternative employment.”
