Foster carers thanked

The hard work and dedication of Merton’s foster carers will be celebrated as Merton Council holds its Annual Foster Carers Reception evening later this month.

The event, organised by Merton Social Services, takes place at Cannizaro House Hotel, Wimbledon on 15 May and will be attended by seventy foster carers, Cllr Edith McCaulay ,the Mayor of Merton, Social Services Department staff, and Merton councillors.

As well as a dinner and dance, the evening will feature a free raffle with a night in the Cannizaro House Hotel as first prize.

Councillor Maxi Martin, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said: “Our foster carers offer an invaluable service and the reception evening is one of those special nights when we get to say a big ‘Thank You’ to them for all their hard work.”

Merton relies on people coming forward to become foster cares to help and support children in care. In return it offers a generous allowance, on-going training, and 24 hour advice and support. Anyone who would like to know more about becoming a foster carer, should call 0800 073 0874 or e-mail:fostering@merton.gov.uk.
