Duke’s Open Evening

Merton’s Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme is holding an Open Evening for prospective participants and their parents or carers on Wednesday 24th September 2003 from 8.00pm to 9.30pm at the Wyvern Youth Centre, 18 Arras Avenue, Morden. There will be displays, literature and general information available, as well as the opportunity to talk to leaders and young people currently participating in the award.

The Award is part of Merton’s Youth Service and is available for all young people aged 14 – 25 years living or going to school in the borough. There are over one thousand young people registered with the award in Merton, each one taking part in the scheme at bronze, silver or gold level by completing four sections; service, skill, physical recreation and expedition (with a fifth, a residential project at Gold level). It is a voluntary programme completed in extra curricular time, which offers the chance to participate in a wide variety of activities, learn new skills and make new friends.

As well as being a lot of fun to do, the Award is an accredited, nationally recognised scheme which employers and educational institutions find extremely attractive. It is a valuable addition to any young person’s CV or Record of Achievement.
