Nearly 1.5 million people across England depend on social care services. However, until 2003 there had been no register of England’s 1.2m strong social care workforce. Merton is delighted to be one of the first Councils to be approached by the General Social Care Council to register it’s fully qualified social workers.
The General Social Care Council has written to the Council to confirm that applications forms will be received shortly to enable this process to begin. The registration of the social care staff employed by Merton Council will raise standards of care and strengthen public protection and improve confidence in social care providers.
As part of the registration process, applicants will need to confirm that they are mentally and physically fit to perform their work, have completed recognised training and are committed to continuous professional development to improve their skills and knowledge base.
