Tennis application is served

Merton Council has received a planning application for the proposed developments at All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

The application which has been submitted by the Building Design Partnership on behalf of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club was received by the council on 16 January and proposes: “Provision of a new retractable and fixed roof over Centre Court and associated plant, improved seating throughout the Centre Court and 1200 additional seats, redevelopment of the eastern wing of the Centre Court facility and alterations to the upper levels of the north and west wings to provide improved debenture and catering facilities, together with re-landscaping of the tea-lawn.”

Merton council’s planning section will shortly be sending out consultation letters to properties surrounding the All England Club, which along with an advertisement in the local newspapers and local site notices will advise residents and other interested parties about the details of the scheme, the dates and places where the plans of the proposals can be viewed. They will also detail the means by which people and organisations can comment.

Following registration, a copy of the full application (ref 04/P0071) will be available for inspection in Merton Link, Merton Civic Centre and at Wimbledon Reference Library. The proposals, including a model, are currently on display in Merton Link, having recently been exhibited to local residents at the All England Lawn Tennis Club.

The application is likely to be considered by the Planning Applications and Licensing Committee later this year.
