Morden Scouts scrub up New Malden

Yet another community clean up took place at the end of February at Shannon Corner, New Malden. This time it was the 2nd Morden Scout Group who gave up their free time to clear graffiti and litter on a cold Saturday morning.

The mixture of boy and girl scouts, joined by two leaders, managed to remove four large bags full of rubbish from the area and wash graffiti off council street furniture and other properties. Despite the miserable weather the scouts remained in good spirits.

This event is a part of an initiative of Merton Council to solve the problem of anti-social behaviour in the borough, such as littering and graffiti. The council employs two full-time graffiti officers to work together with the community to tackle the problem through a range of initiatives, community clean-ups being one of them.

Pat De jesus, Merton Council’s Graffiti Officer, said: ‘Thank you to all the scouts who gave up the free time to join us in cleaning up the borough. Despite the weather they made a superb effort and a real difference to the area. If you run a community group and would like to get involved in a similar event contact me on 020 8545 4109.’
