Merton Council celebrated the success of its children in care at a prestigious award ceremony earlier this month.
The ‘Celebrating Success’ event was organised and run by Merton Social Services and acclaims the achievements of its younger children in care. The ceremony which took place on Thursday June 3 at Morden Hall Park was to celebrate the successes of children aged between five and ten and followed on from a similar occasion in March that honoured young people aged between 11 and 18.
Eighteen children were nominated for the awards. They were chosen following particular successes in areas such as education, sport and personal progress.
Mayor, Councillor Margaret Brierly was on hand to present the awards and expressed her pride in doing so.
“For some of these children, this may well have been their first such award and having faced so many challenges in their young lives, this makes it all the more special. I am delighted to be involved in such a rewarding project.”
