Design for Christmas
Children honoured by Merton

Six children who designed this year’s Christmas cards for the Leader, Chief Executive and other senior officers at Merton Council were invited to the council offices to receive a presentation of their work on Tuesday December 14.

The children, aged between 5 and 9 are all from The Priory Church of England Primary School in Wimbledon. The Priory was selected for the honour, as it is one of the country’s leading schools for art and a current recipient of the Artsmark Gold. The prestigious Arts Council award that recognises a school’s commitment to the arts from design to literature, dance to sculpture and art to music.

The winning children used a variety of techniques to paint their designs, which ranged from reindeers to nativity scenes.

The Leader of the Council, Councillor Andrew Judge said:

“I was delighted to meet the young artists, their parents, and The Priory Primary School’s art teacher, Beth Knock. I am very impressed with the children’s pictures, which could easily make a modern art exhibition alongside mature artists.”
