Merton is on the lookout for young people in school years 4 – 12 to represent the borough this summer in the 2005 London Youth Games – Europe’s largest youth sport competition.
The main finals will take place on the weekend of July 2 and 3, at Crystal Palace National Sports Arena with preliminary rounds over the three previous weekends.
Competitors must either live in or go to school in Merton to be eligible to represent Merton in the games.
The London Heathrow Youth Games is now in its 28th year and features over 40 different sporting events. The range includes everything from angling to archery, karate to volleyball and even weightlifting, as well as a selection of events for young disabled people.
A number of trials have been organised to form the Youth Games Team. They include:
·Boys and Girls Gymnastics:Saturday 7 May, 3pm – Cannons Leisure Centre, Madeira Road, Mitcham.
·Boys Hockey Trials: Thursday 12 May, 4pm – 6pm – Tamworth Manor High School, Wide Way, Mitcham.
