What: Official opening of the Weir Road Reuse and Recycling Centre
When: Monday 28 November, 11.15am for 11.30am
Where: 36 Weir Road, Wimbledon
The new Reuse and Recycling Centre at 36 Weir Road will be officially opened on Monday 28 November at 11.30am.
Councillor Andrew Judge, Leader of Merton Council will officially open the facility and an 8-foot mural on a wall of the centre will be unveiled. The mural was reproduced from artwork submitted by 10-year old Stuart from Benedict Primary School who won a ‘Design a Mural’ competition organised by Merton Waste Services.
The Centre is the second site of its kind to open in Merton to help the borough cut down on the amount of waste sent to landfill but is unique in that it is one of only a few ‘zero waste’ facilities in the UK. It is open to all Merton residents to use free of charge and accepts a range of materials as long as they are reusable, repairable or recyclable (garden waste will also be accepted for composting purposes).
The London Borough of Merton funded the project with assistance from the London Recycling Fund and the Waste and Resources Action Programme.
The Centre is open Mondays, 12pm – 7pm and Friday to Sunday, 8am – 4pm. Call 0208 946 4554 or visit http://www.merton.gov.uk/refuse for more information.
