MP Patricia Hewitt, Health Secretary visiting Merton

Secretary of State for Health, Patricia Hewitt will being paying an official visit to Merton on Tuesday.

The visit will take place on Tuesday 7 February between 19.30-20.30pm at the Merton Civic Centre, London Road, Morden.

The purpose of her visit is to participate in a questions and answers session following her decision that the new critical care hospital be located on the Metropolitan open land at St Helier Hospital.

Merton Council Leader, Councillor Andrew Judge said:

“The recent decision to locate the critical care hospital at St Helier was very welcome. It means that we should have a superb local hospital in the local community rather than one some distance away.

“Merton Council have campaigned for this outcome and referred the issue to the Secretary of State so as to enable her to make a decision. This is a fair and just outcome and I look forward to thanking Patricia Hewitt for it.”
