Merton Council has congratulated a Morden business couple for winning the 2005 Asian Trader Neighbourhood Retailer of the Year Award.
Nitin and Hansa Pandit were presented with the award at Grosvenor House Hotel on 22 November 2005.
The couple were recognised for the post-office business they have run for 17 years from The Parade and now as Londis Store and Post Office in Green Lane, Morden.
In 2003, after outgrowing their tiny 450 square feet post office in The Parade, the couple successfully lobbied Merton Council for planning permission to convert two empty shops in Green Lane into a bigger space of 2000 square feet where they relocated their business and added a convenience store.
Councillor Andrew Judge, Leader of Merton Council, said:
“This is a great example of the local council working with a local business to achieve results for the whole community.”
