MJ success for Merton

The Municipal Journal Achievement Awards to be held on 27 June will see Merton Council as finalists in two categories and awarded two commendations.

This year’s award ceremony, which is being held at the Hilton Hotel, Park Lane in Central London has a host of local authorities pitting themselves against each other in a variety of areas ranging from Best Achieving Council to Efficiency Achievement of the Year.

Merton is in the running for Reducing Health Inequalities Achievement of the Year in view of our teenage pregnancy strategy work, and in recognition of Merton’s commitment to Compact, we are also finalists in the category of Working with the Voluntary and Community Sector Achievement of the year.

Merton’s commendations are for Best Achievement in Children’s Services and working with the Voluntary and Community Sector Achievement of the Year, where the Safer Merton Youth Champions programme has been singled out for praise.

Chief Executive of Merton Council, Ged Curran said:

‘Nominations for these prestigious awards show just how much Merton has improved in recent years. I am particularly pleased that both awards reflect the very good working relationships between the council, the Health service and the voluntary and community sectors. I am grateful to everyone in those sectors for their great contribution to the borough.’
