What: Prize giving for recycled sculpture competition 2006

Where: Merton Link, Merton Civic Centre, Morden
Three of Merton’s Primary Schools are to be rewarded for their environmental innovation this Friday.
Councillor Tariq Ahmad will present pupils and teachers from Abbotsbury Primary School, Stanford Primary School and West Wimbledon Primary School with recycled goodie bags for their magnificent efforts in the 2006 recycled sculpture competition.
The competition, which was organised by Merton’s Waste Services department, invited children from Merton’s primary and special schools to design a sculpture comprised of waste recyclable materials.
The winning entries are:
1) Stag beetle
Abbotsbury Primary School (Reception class, aged 4 & 5)
2) Green piece
Stanford Primary School (class 4K, aged 8 & 9)
3) Iron man
West Wimbledon Primary School (Kingfisher class, aged 5 & 6)
Councillor Tariq Ahmad, cabinet member for Environment and Traffic Management said:
“It gives me great pleasure to present prizes to the three schools, who have each shown wonderful imagination and improvisation with the materials available to them.
