Children visit local sculptor

Children enrolled on the Summer Play Scheme were treated to a tour of local sculptor, Roland Lawar’s studio in Phipps Bridge last Thursday.

The children, aged between 5 and 11 years old, have been working with Roland and Lawar and Teri Hylton at the South Mitcham Community Centre on creating masks of an African theme.

Councillor Maurice Groves, cabinet member for Community services said:

“What a wonderful way for local children to spend their summer holidays. I’m sure they thoroughly enjoyed the tour of the studio and in turn, learned a great deal also.

“I would like to pass on my thanks to the Summer Play Scheme staff at South Mitcham Community Centre, who have made Summer 2006 all the more memorable for the children involved.”
