What: You are invited to the launch of the Celebrating Age Festival
When: Friday 1 September, 11am – 12 noon
Where: Lower Level, Centre Court, Wimbledon
Entertainment at the launch will be provided by members of Merton older people’s groups, representing a wide cross-section of the community, including the Goan Elderly, Positive Networks, WIFFA and ACES, London South West Chinese CA, the South London Tamil Welfare Group and Merton & Morden Guild.
The Celebrating Age Festival runs from 9 – 24 September and offers a wide range of events over the 16 day period. In addition to established favourites like the Caribbean Party, the Big Band Tea Dance and the International Food Fair and Cultural Day, this year’s Festival includes such diverse offerings as a Latin Dance Evening, a trip to the dogs, a Cockney Afternoon, and a tour of a local allotments. You can try out anything from belly dancing to computers, while there are a number of opportunities to have fun with grandchildren, including tours of your local fire station and tea at Deen City Farm.
There are a number of key events in the programme but one of the most spectacular will be the International Food Fair and Cultural Day at Merton Hall on Wednesday 20 September from 10am – 2pm. It will be attended by the Deputy Mayor, John Dehaney.
