Elisabeth pool to open in Wimbledon Park

On 14 July, the Deputy Mayor, Councillor Philip Jones, will officially open an exciting new water play area in Wimbledon Park. The new paddling pool, to be called the Elisabeth Pool, will be a delightful play area for young children.

The new pool is quite different from the other paddling pools in Merton’s Parks. It has jets and fountains that can be activated by the children, so it should prove to be a popular venue this summer.

There will be a speech from Sim Comfort, Chairman of the Wimbledon Park Heritage Group, and the cutting of the ribbon will then follow to celebrate the opening of this superb facility for young children.
The Elisabeth Pool is in memory of a young girl called Elisabeth who enjoyed playing in Wimbledon Park.
A generous private donor who wishes to remain anonymous has provided the funding for this new facility.
Councillor Maurice Groves, cabinet member for Community Services, said:

“The Elisabeth Pool will provide the perfect place for children to cool off and play during the summer. We are very grateful to the benefactor who provided the donation for this gift to Wimbledon Park.”

Councillor Tariq Ahmad, cabinet member for Environment and Traffic Management, will also be attending.
