West Wimbledon Primary School has plenty to cheer about this Christmas. Ofsted inspectors have just announced that West Wimbledon is an outstanding school.
The inspectors were full of praise for the school. The creative use of resources and the way staff inspire pupils to try their hardest particularly impressed the inspectors.
John Kingman, year six, said: “We’re proud of our school – our teachers make learning fun.”
Headteacher Carey Neil said: “The teamwork here is fantastic. All staff give the highest priority to caring for each child in our school. Our children know they are safe here and have the confidence to learn and explore opportunities to the best of their ability. We’re delighted that Ofsted have recognised the quality of education at West Wimbledon. The whole team – the pupils, parents and staff -has been working outstandingly well for a long time now and this is shown in our consistently improving results.”
Councillor Oonagh Moulton, Cabinet Member for School Standards and Youth Engagement said: ‘This is tremendous news. West Wimbledon Primary school thoroughly deserves its success which is testament to all the hard work and commitment of staff, pupils, parents and carers alike.’
On the same day that Ofsted’s findings were reported to pupils and parents, West Wimbledon Primary School held its annual Christmas Fair. “The atmosphere was fantastic,” said Nicki Brown, Chair of the Friends of West Wimbledon. “The great news about this fantastic school helped us all get in a festive mood and the fair raised an outstanding amount.”
Despite the reward for all their hard work no-one at West Wimbledon will be resting on their laurels. “We have great plans for 2008,” said Ms Neil. “We’re always looking to improve what we do here, to become even more outstanding.”
