Merton Council is working in partnership with London South West Chinese Community Association (LSWCCA) to celebrate the Chinese New Year.
Dancers and musicians plan to fill the Tai Tung Restaurant in the Wing Yip Centre, Croydon, on Saturday 16 February, for an evening of cultural entertainment, including traditional Chinese dancing, singing and music.
The event, which is being funded by the council, kicks off at 6pm and includes a ten-course banquet as well as speeches by Merton Mayor John Dehaney, representatives from the Chinese embassy, patron Councillor Judy Saunders and the chair of LSWCCA, Lilian Saltoon.
Tickets to the event are £25 for adults and £12 for children aged between six and 11, and can be bought from the LSWCCA’s Office at Vestry Hall, on 020 8665 2730. Under 5s are free.
Councillor Maurice Groves, Cabinet Member for Community Services, said: “Funding events like Chinese New Year is a way in which we can celebrate the wide cultural diversity within Merton and put the needs of all our residents first.”
