Wimbledon Library welcomes international writer

Best-selling author Mary Lawson will be reading from her two award-winning novels and answering questions on her writing when she visits Wimbledon Library next month.

Mrs Lawson, whose first book Crow Lake won the McKitterick Prize and whose second novel The Other Side of the Bridge was chosen by Richard and Judy for their Summer Read, was born in Canada but now lives in Kingston with her husband. She also has two-grown-up sons.

Tickets to the event on Thursday 6 March are free for library members and £3 for non-members. Doors open at 7pm and tickets include a glass of wine and a selection of cheeses.

Visitors and regulars will also be in with a chance to win the acclaimed The Other Side of the Bridge on the night by entering a prize draw.

Cabinet Member for Community Services Councillor Maurice Groves said: “Having high profile authors such as Mary Lawson visit our libraries is a fantastic way of raising the profile of our libraries and enticing both members and non-members inside the doors.

“Organising author readings like these shows Merton Council is determined to put the needs of residents first and provide entertainments everyone can enjoy.”
