Fun seekers in the capital are being invited to an unusual night of stand up comedy this week – amongst the books and CDs of Mitcham Library in southwest London.
The four comedians will be hoping for raucous laughter from the audience rather than the golden silence traditionally associated with libraries.
The comedy night is part of a drive to encourage a new generation of library users and entice those back who may have lapsed their membership and can only recall the quiet, serious places of childhood.
“Comedy Hour” to be held at Mitcham Library on Tuesday 11 March will star Matt Blaize, Imran Yusuf, Fred Strangebone and Clyde West.
The four stars are hailed as exciting new talent, with energetic performances and side-splitting gags and the chance to see them live on stage is open to all residents.
Library members will be admitted for free. Non-members will be charged an entry fee of £3.
Doors open at 7:30pm with the comedians appearing from 8pm.
Cabinet member for Community Services, Councillor Maurice Groves, says: “Why not join us for what promises to be a cracking night out. These important community facilities have so much more to offer than just lending books and we hope that by encouraging people to the comedy night they will keep coming back.”
