Merton Council is to embark on a programme of works to upgrade its three leisure centres, Canons Leisure Centre, Morden Park Pool and Wimbledon Leisure Centre.
The council will be spending nearly half a million pounds on improving the changing facilities at Canons and Morden, as well as installing a new sauna at Wimbledon. Improvements to machinery behind the scenes will also continue to ensure everything at the leisure centres works efficiently.
Keen to keep residents informed about their leisure facilities, Merton Council has updated its leisure web pages to include improvement works planned for the future. Also listed will be works that have been completed over the past 12 months. The pages at http://www.merton.gov.uk/leisurecentres will be updated monthly.
Merton Council Cabinet Member for Community Services Maurice Groves said: ‘We want to provide the best leisure facilities possible for our residents within the necessary budgetary constraints.
‘We also want to make sure that we are as transparent as possible about our spending so residents can see where the money set aside for leisure centres has been spent. The monthly update means that people will be able to easily see what improvements are being made and when they can expect to see the benefit.’
