Merton Council acts to keep CO2 emissions down

Merton Council is taking down the four wind turbines on the civic centre roof for five to seven days to carry out some routine maintenance and make sure they are in good working order.

Keeping the turbines in excellent condition is part of the council’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and full wind power will be restored as soon as possible.

The council’s cabinet member for Corporate Resources Councillor Samantha George said: “These wind turbines generate some percentage of the energy used at the civic centre and it is vital they are properly maintained to ensure they continue to generate green energy for us.

“Keeping CO2 emissions and energy costs down is crucial to providing our residents with value for money and to putting their needs first by turning Merton into a greener borough.”
