Merton Council is supporting Peace Week this year with a number of different events culminating in a grand finale with live music and entertainments on Saturday 20 September at Wimbledon Piazza.
Everyone is invited to join in the week of events, which will include the opening of the Peace Garden at Canon’s recreational ground in Mitcham on Friday 19 September, as well as a celebration for World Peace Day at the civic centre on Sunday 21 September.
Merton’s safer neighbourhood team’s reassurance bus will be travelling around the borough and will be stationed at various spots throughout the week, including the civic centre, Mitcham Fair Green and Colliers Wood Sainsburys and Marks and Spencer supermarket centre.
Merton Council’s cabinet member for community safety and engagement Tariq Ahmad said: “Around 84% of residents think Merton is somewhere people of different faiths and backgrounds get on well together. But Merton is also one of the fastest growing London boroughs and we have to keep working together to make sure everyone continues to get on well and all residents feel their needs are being met.
“Peace Week is the perfect occasion for everyone in the community to come together and join in some – or even all – of the events on offer.”
