Council leisure centre to get new facilities

Merton Council’s Wimbledon Leisure Centre – operated by Greenwich Leisure Limited (GLL) – is the only council-owned centre in the UK to have the brand new state-of-the-art Kinesis One equipment, installed and paid for by GLL as part of the company’s redevelopment of the Wellness Fitness Centre.

Kinesis One provides a full body workout using cables, weights and springs. Visitors to the fitness centre will also have the chance to use one of four Technogym flexability machines which improve posture and can help those suffering from lower back problems.

The centre is also building a 25 bike Aerobiking Studio, complete with disco balls and high tempo music.

On Monday a Technogym master trainer was at the complex to show both members and non-members the best way to use the equipment.

Merton Council’s cabinet member for community services, Councillor Maurice Groves said: “Keeping fit and healthy is very important and we are pleased to be working with GLL to provide our residents with the best equipment possible to enable them to do so.

“The new facilities at Wimbledon Leisure Centre enable people of all ages and abilities to keep in shape including those who have back problems and other health concerns.”
