Merton Adult Education students in the UK top ten

Four Merton Adult Education students are among the top ten achievers in the country for GCSEs in modern foreign languages.

Ian Lister and Clare Owen achieved A* grades for their Italian GCSEs, ranking them in the top ten students for Italian GCSEs in the country.

Stephen Knight and another female student also received A* grades for their Spanish exams and were also among the top ten best students in the country for Italian GCSEs.

Merton’s Deputy Mayor Councillor Krysia Williams handed Certificates of Outstanding Achievement in a celebration ceremony for the students on Monday 20 October. Merton Council’s Chief Executive Ged Curran was also present.

Awarded student Stephen Knight says: “This course is a very good basis to someone wanting to start to learn Spanish and the teaching was great. I would encourage everyone to try Merton Adult Education’s language courses as I have learnt so much and had a lot of fun at the same time.”

Councillor Maurice Groves Cabinet Member for Community Services says: “Merton Council is very proud of these brilliant students and wishes to congratulate them for their great achievement. The council also wants to congratulate teachers at Merton Adult Education for providing education to such a high level and enabling students to develop their skills to the full.”
