Merton mums get active

To help mums stay active Merton Council has set up free daytime sporting sessions.

Mums can take advantage of a wide range of sporting activities including netball and aerobic sessions as part of the Mum Active projects which start again on Monday 3 November after the school half term at three locations in Mitcham:
Mondays 1.30pm-2.30pm at Haslemere Children Centre
Tuesdays 11.45am-12.45pm at Cranmer Primary School
Thursdays 1pm -2pm at Lavender Park Pavilion Children’s Centre

The Mums Active sessions are run by coaches from Fulham Community Sports Trust and mums attending can decide what sports they do. The project will also give women the opportunity to train as coaches and take part in running future projects.

Anyone interested can drop in on a session but if they would like to take advantage of the creche facilities please reserve spaces by calling 020 8646 4429. For more information visit http://www.merton.gov.uk/mumssportssessions

Merton Council cabinet member for community services Councillor Maurice Groves said: ” Active Mums is great for those mums whose children are still too young for school but still want to maintain an active life or just meet new people. The great thing about Active Mums is unlike many sporting activities these sessions are aimed at mothers and take place at times which are convenient to them. Come along, bring a friend and have a great time.”

Note to Editor
The Active Mums project first launch in September 2008
Active Mums is running thanks to funding from Sport England’s Community Investment Fund to increase the opportunity of women to get involved in sport and fitness activities.
For mums with children under school age, childcare is available at a minimum cost.
