To round off National Enterprise Week, Mitcham Means Business will be celebrating the entrepreneurial spirit in the town by giving seven new entrepreneurs the opportunity to experience real-life trading.
From 10am-2pm on Friday 21 November the new businesses will be showcasing their products at a Beginners’ Market in Mitcham’s Market Square. Products and services for sale will include handmade greeting cards, photography, celebration cakes and handmade jewellery. The entrepreneurs have all completed business workshops organised by Mitcham Means Business, so they will be putting theory into practice. Through the workshops they learned about marketing, taxation, finance, developing a business plan and the value of taking care over how goods are displayed.
Merton Council’s cabinet member for regeneration, Councillor Diane Neil Mills said: ‘This is a wonderful example of how we can bring the theory and practice of business together. Putting the needs of our start up businesses first, we want to give these new entrepreneurs the best start they can possibly have. The opportunity to experience real life trading on a market square will hopefully give them a taste of success and the encouragement to make their business dream work. Through events like this we hope to attract people from far and wide into Mitcham and let them know that the town is well and truly open for business.’
