The Christmas spirit will be soaring in Merton this December as school children gather for Mitcham’s first ever Christmas tree lights switch on.
Pupils from local primary schools will be in the New Market Square, Mitcham, on Thursday 4 December to take part in a carol concert specially organised for the event, which kicks off at 2pm.
School children will also be supporting the turning on of the Christmas tree lights in Morden at a concert being held outside the civic centre. The carol singing on Wednesday 10 December starts at 1.30pm and fair trade café, Tariro, will be organising teas and coffees to help singers keep out the cold.
Merton Council’s cabinet member for regeneration, Councillor Diane Neil Mills said: “The switching on of our Christmas lights and the carol concerts mark the beginning of the festive period. This year promises to be extra special as it is the first time Mitcham has held its own event to mark the switching on of the Christmas tree lights.
“We hope as many people as possible will come along and join the children at these two lovely carol concerts.”
