Merton Council opened a brand new sauna last week as part of a £500,000 refurbishment programme for its three leisure centres.
The sauna is a new addition to Wimbledon Leisure Centre and accommodates 12 people at any one time. Fully accessible to all, the sauna benches can be lifted up in order to make room for wheelchairs. The sauna also has its own separate changing facilities, en suite showers and toilet facilities.
Merton Council cabinet member for community services, Councillor Maurice Groves said: ‘This part of the refurbishment is great news for Merton residents. After a workout at the gym, the sauna is a great way to relax and also helps with sweating out all those toxins. Our investment in Merton’s leisure centres demonstrates the council’s commitment to providing local residents with a reasonably priced way of getting fit and active, which is vital for a healthy lifestyle.’
