Merton Council is joining forces with Making Colliers Wood Happy and the local residents’ association to celebrate the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad in style next month.
Local people will be showcasing their talents with wandering performance artists, sporting enthusiasts and arts and crafts experts all on hand at the Colliers Wood Party on Saturday 2 May. Local leisure and cultural activities will also be on offer for all to enjoy.
Around 1,000 people are expected to turn up to the free party at Colliers Wood recreation ground off Cavendish Road. The celebrations kick off at 12 noon and everyone is invited to come along, bring a deck chair and join in the fun.
Merton Council’s cabinet member for community services, Councillor Maurice Groves said: “The Colliers Wood Party will give everyone the chance to try out a sport or arts activity and discover a talent they never knew they had.
“Bringing together sport and the arts is what the Cultural Olympiad is all about. We are determined to put our residents first and give them the opportunities to engage in various sporting and cultural activities to enhance their experience of the Games.”
