Celebration praises foster carers in Merton

Merton’s foster carers were given the praise and recognition they deserve at a special reception last Friday 5 June at the Cannizaro House Hotel in Wimbledon.

The reception was to celebrate the hard work and dedication of each and every one of Merton’s foster carers, and the difference they make to over a hundred children looked after by Merton every year.

Five foster carers received long service awards for their commitment to fostering for 10 years. One foster carer received her NVQ Level Three in Caring for Children and Young People.

Councillor Debbie Shears, cabinet member for children’s services at Merton Council said:

“Foster carers have one of the most important, challenging and influential roles in our community. They provide loving and stable homes to children who need them the most.

“It is important that we recognise the selfless commitment and hard work that foster carers give to children and our community day after day. This night was an opportunity for us to celebrate our foster carers and to say ‘thank you’ from Merton.”
