Merton scores a goal for men’s health

Merton Council is reminding dads and their sons to take advantage of the weekly Dads and Lads football sessions as Men’s Health Week kicks off this week, from 15 to 21 June.

The council’s Community Sport and Physical Activity Network (CSPAN) helped set up the programme with the Hub at Tooting and Mitcham football club back in September. The network is hoping that the celebrations for Men’s Health Week will raise awareness of men’s health and encourage all men, whatever their age, to make sure they have regular health check ups and keep in shape.

The weekly sessions take place on Fridays at 7.15pm at the Hub, Imperial Fields, Bishopsford Road, Morden.

Merton Council’s cabinet member for adult care services and health Councillor Maurice Groves said:

“It is vital both men and boys keep an eye on their health, have regular check ups, keep fit and healthy so that they can make the most of their lives.

“Dads, I know do not always find the time for exercise in their busy lives. Good quality time with their children in the great community atmosphere of Tooting and Mitcham Football Club’s excellent building called the Hub, at its ground in Bishopsford Road, is a great way to exercise. They can then enjoy a cup of coffee in the bar afterwards. There are easy transport links by bus or tram and Wimbledon is only ten minutes away.

“We are committed to putting the needs of our residents first by supporting events like Men’s Health Week and we hope that the good habits last all year long.”
