Merton’s got talent

Musician and singer Sean Davis is setting up a new Community Choir putting residents through their paces with various styles of music including folk, gospel, classical and jazz every Tuesday between 7pm – 9pm at South Mitcham Community Centre on Haslemere Avenue.

As part of the neighbourhood renewal programme, an action plan for the Phipps Bridge community was developed, which identified establishment of a choir as an idea with local support.

Residents are invited to join the choir. For more information they should contact Merton Council on 0208 545 3837.

Merton Council’s cabinet member for finance and regeneration, Councillor Diane Neill Mills said: ‘Music, and singing in particular, brings people together to pursue the common goal of a great performance. Our new choir is free and open to all. Singing with others can be one of the most uplifting experiences there is. It’s also great fun and there are so many different styles of music that there is sure to be something for everyone.

Community Choir leader, Sean Davis said: ‘I am so excited about this project. As well as bringing people of ages and backgrounds together, we will be performing at events around the borough as well as entering competitions nationally and locally.’
