Library stays put for foreseeable future

Colliers Wood residents will continue to have their local library needs met at the current Donald Hope Library site at Cavendish House on the High Street in Colliers Wood.

A break clause opportunity for the current site had prompted the council to investigate whether the needs of residents would be best met at its current location at Cavendish House until the lease expires in 2017, or at a new location in the vicinity.

After investigation into other potential options and further consultation with local residents, the decision was taken by the council to see out the lease at Cavendish House on Colliers Wood High Street.

Councillor Linda Scott, cabinet member for housing and community services said:

“While we had identified sites that showed some potential for the future, for reasons beyond our control we were unable to take these options forward at this time. In the meantime therefore, Donald Hope Library will remain at its current location which is very central to the Colliers Wood area, has fantastic transport links, is a well-used community resource and is set to introduce self-service technology to visitors in the next few months.”

“I would like to thank residents for the time and effort they have given to this consultation. We will continue to look at a variety of options for Donald Hope Library to help deliver even better services for library users in the future. Residents can be sure that their involvement in these discussions will be a vital contribution to any decisions that are made going forward.”

Residents are always invited to have their say about how they would like their library to look in the future and can do so by using the comments book at the library to put forward their suggestions and ideas.
