Merton Council will see in the festive season with carols on Tuesday 8 December from 2pm.
Children from local schools St Ann’s and Hillcross Primary School will sing classic Christmas carols outside the Civic Centre in Morden. Merton’s Mayor Councillor Nick Draper and cabinet member for finance and regeneration Councillor Diane Neil Mills will join in the singing under the lit Christmas tree which stands a proud 25 feet tall for all to see in Morden town centre.
Christmas shoppers, local businesses and people out and about in Morden town centre are all welcome to join in the singing.
Councillor Nick Draper said: “Christmas is here again, another chance to celebrate with our families, friends and neighbours. Singing carols alongside two Morden schools, including St. Anne’s Special School, is a fantastic way to start Advent and I hope as many local residents and council officers as possible can spare the time to join in with Diane and me.”
Councillor Diane Neil Mills said: “Under our Morden Christmas tree, we think of the special time ahead as we celebrate Christmas with the singing of carols. We also think of people who may not have friends and family around them, and maybe make that little bit of extra effort to make sure our neighbours have what they need and are not lonely this Christmas.”
