Tennis fun for youngsters in Wimbledon Park

Youngsters will have the opportunity to try out their tennis skills when the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC), The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) and Merton Council team up to organise their annual free tennis fun day on Saturday 26 June in Wimbledon Park.

Held bang in the middle of the world famous Wimbledon Tennis Championships, young people aged 3 – 18 years will have the chance to learn top tips on how to play or improve their technique with professional tennis coaches on hand to help. Courts open from 10am till 3pm.

In previous years Wimbledon Park has seen between 100 and 300 youngsters descend on the courts.

Merton Council’s cabinet member for community and culture Councillor Martin Whelton said: “I would like to thank the AELTC and LTA for their support for this event. This is a fantastic opportunity for budding young tennis players to play tennis just a stone’s throw away from where the tournament is taking place. Young people may even get the opportunity of meeting some of the tennis stars who occasionally come down to join in when they’re not busy playing at the Championships.

‘It’s always a fun day, and it will hopefully encourage young people to brush up their tennis skills, or even to take up the sport from scratch with the help of experts. Who knows, may be a future Wimbledon champion will be spotted at this event and it might even be you!’
