Open House 2010

Residents and visitors to the borough will have the opportunity to see the heights of Merton from the roof of the civic centre in Morden, when Merton Council throws open its doors as part of the London Open House weekend (18 and 19 September).

There will be tours on a regular basis between 10 -4pm, taking visitors 14 floors up to the viewing platform, where they will be able to see the roof tops and green spaces of Merton. Visitors will also be treated to amazing views towards the capital including the Wembley arch, BT Tower, the London Eye, the Gherkin and Canary Wharf. The tours will also include a look around the Council Chamber where visitors will have the chance to see where the borough’s decision-making and political debate happen.

Architecture enthusiasts will be able to discover more design treasures up close as Merton opens the doors to twelve other buildings across the borough. No booking is required, but visitors are advised to arrive early to ensure they get to see their view.

Leader of Merton Council Councillor Stephen Alambritis said: “This is a wonderful and rare opportunity for residents and visitors to Merton to take a bird’s eye view of the borough and see the inside of the council chamber. Last year over 130 visitors enjoyed going up on the roof. The tour around the chamber may even encourage visitors and residents to come along to a council meeting one day and possibly get involved in our energetic political debate.”
